Setting Up Your Child For A Successful First VisitIt is important to establish good oral habits with your child from the beginning. You want your child to grow up thinking that a visit to our office is just a normal part of life, not something that should be feared. It is recommended that you bring your child to our office for the first time before his or her first birthday. Everyone here at NC Pediatric Dentistry wants to make that first visit, and all visits that will follow over the years, easy on both you and your child. What You Should Know About Your Child's First Dental VisitThere are a few things that you need to know or do before you bring your child here to see us. We will have paperwork that needs to be filled out. If possible, fill it out ahead of time. You can then either get it to us when you finish, or bring it with you to your first appointment. If you have not filled out the paperwork, please arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of your appointment time so that you will be able to complete it and not be pushed back on the schedule. If you or your child has a cold, please let us know so that we can reschedule. Remember that there will be other children here in the waiting room. You do not want to risk infecting them. Think of it this way: you would not want someone else to bring a child with a cold and infect your child, so please use the same courtesy. The appointment itself will most likely be fairly simple. We will examine your child to make sure that everything is happening correctly. By the time you bring your child for the first visit, there will most likely be a few teeth, and we will look them over to see that everything looks good. A good portion of the appointment will be directed towards the parents. We encourage both parents to take part whenever possible. We will talk about proper nutrition and how that plays a part in oral health. We will also show you what you need to do for your baby's teeth, and also teach you what to look for. We will also encourage you to ask questions. Here at NC Pediatric Dentistry, we know that a lifetime of healthy smiles begins at a young age. We want your child to grow up knowing how to take care of his or her teeth. We also want to make sure that your child will not develop a fear of the dentist. Call us at your nearest location to make that first appointment, even if your child is not walking yet. You want to make sure that your child will start on the right path to good oral health. |
